Tap is a form of dance which focuses on the use and development of rhythm and syncopation Tap is fast becoming a regular staple in commercial dance and is already a vital part of musical theatre.

Jazz
Jazz dance is a form of dance commonly used in Broadway shows and movies. Jazz is a more contemporary kind of dance as compared to ballet, in jazz dancing the movements are big and exaggerated and there is usually an attitude the dancer conveys to the audience. The essence of jazz dance is entertainment.

The Tap and Jazz programs at the Scripps Performing Arts Academy provide supplemental training to the Pre-Professional and Recreational Ballet students as well as the Serious Commerical dancer. Several levels of Tap and Jazz are available several times a week to allow for recreational and pre-professional level training in either style.

The Tap and Jazz department puts on an annual performance in the Spring and will couple with the Musical Theatre department's mainstage musical production to create a dance ensemble.

Serious Tap and Jazz students may be invited to participate in Dance Aire (Artistry in Rhythm Ensemble), a touring dance ensemble that performs all over Southern California!
